APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO THE PRESCHOOL

Thank you for your interest in BHS Preschool!
We look forward to getting to know you and your child.

FALL 2024 ENTRY

Our admissions process includes:

APPLY: Completing this General Admissions Application by Monday, December 18th (see below for later applications)
TOUR: Learning more about our school through a tour with the Preschool Director
PLAY: A small group in-person play observation so that we can see your child at play and get a chance to speak with you. (Your play visit cannot be scheduled until an application is received.)
APPLY AFTER MONDAY, DECEMBER 18: if you miss the deadline, please apply and we will make every effort to complete your process by scheduling a tour and play visit. Tours may be scheduled by reservation, however we cannot schedule a play visit until a completed reservation is received.

Children must turn two to be eligible to be dropped off at BHSP. With sufficient interest we run a "late fall start" class for those who turn 2 by October 31. We also invite you to consider Boker 2s (a partial separation class that meets twice a week for children aged 18-26 months).

Late applications will always be accepted and processed in the order in which they are received. However, after March 7, 2024, you are encouraged, to call the school at (718) 522-2070 X136 to learn if there are any remaining openings before submitting an application. In all cases, you will need to complete a play visit and tour in order for placement to be considered.

We are delighted that you are applying to the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue Preschool! Because it is so important that a parent be confident a preschool is a good fit for their child, we require that parents learn about our school and programming on a tour and schedule a play observation in order for the application process to be complete. Tours may be scheduled before completing an application, or you may submit your application now and we will send information about scheduling your tour.

Once you have submitted an application and had a tour, we will schedule a small group play observation for you and your child. Both parents are encouraged to attend if it is possible since this is also an opportunity for you to ask questions.

All employees, and all medically eligible visitors aged 12 and up who come to BHS must show proof of COVID vaccination in order to enter. Thank you in advance for helping to keep our community safe and healthy.

* I understand that the school may need to offer remote learning at times, in accordance with regulations and guidance from the Department of Health, while maintaining its high standards for developmentally appropriate practice. Because multiple hours of screen time per day is inappropriate for almost all children, it is likely that remote offerings will be shorter than in person class times - and BHS Preschool will continue to value the experience of individual children as they grow and learn in any modality. I know if I have any questions about this way of providing continuity of service to the Preschool learning community, the BHS administration will be happy to share their approach to the highly interactive, playful remote learning into which we can transition if it is deemed necessary for the safety of our children. I am aware that BHS Preschool currently requires COVID vaccination for students, teachers, staff, and visitors where it is medically permitted, and that COVID regulations and school requirements may vary as knowledge and other factors change over time. It is BHSP's intention to keep children safe. At the time of this application, I am aware that BHSP is following the guidance of the DOHMH and CDC that all children and adults should be "up to date" with vaccination. This means that they have had all covid vaccinations and boosters for which they are "eligible". A child is not, however, considered "eligible" by BHSP if their pediatrician deems it unsafe, unhealthy, ill-timed, or unavailable and provides documentation of same.

The Brooklyn Heights Synagogue Preschool does not discriminate on the basis of religion, race, color, national or ethnic origin, or sexual orientation in its admissions, policies, or educational programs. All acceptances will be in writing; registration is considered complete upon signing and returning enrollment contract and nonrefundable deposit. BHS Preschool is requiring COVID vaccination for students in the 2024-25 school year.
